DIY Wooden Shelves

I have a small bathroom problem.  We recently finished our basement and we really didn’t have much choice with the bathroom. We were left with a narrow and kind of long bathroom.  I wanted to put some shelves over the toilet to store a few things.  I searched around a bit and everything just seemed overpriced.  I set out to create them myself!  Now diy projects do not come easy to me.  I am forcing myself to be creative and crafty.  I envy those that have it naturally!!

First we went to Menards and picked up some 2×6 boards.  My hubby cut them down to the size I wanted and then I went to work distressing them a bit.  Basically I just pounded them with a hammer.  I wanted the boards to look old.  My hubby used his power sander on them when I was done distressing.  I put a few coats of stain on(I used Minwax Dark Walnut) and then finished up with a protective finish.  The hardest part is waiting between all of the coats.  Seriously all of these projects would be easier if we didn’t have to wait so long!!:)

I went searching for some decorative shelf brackets and had a hard time finding a size small enough. I checked both Menards and Home Depot and didn’t have any luck.  I finally went online and found these.  They worked perfect!

My hubby did the hanging because I am not good at getting things level.  I think they turned out pretty good!!

Add a few things on the shelves and finished!
